The following good practice guides have been produced by the E-learning Team. They cover a range of technologies and teaching methods and are designed to staff use the tools in an effective way. Both pedagogical recommendations and how-to instructions are included:

  • AberLearn Blackboard - the virtual learning environment (VLE) used by Aberystwyth University
    • E-submission through AberLearn using Blackboard Assignment and SafeAssign 
  • AberCast Lecture Capture - record your lectures using Panopto CourseCast
  • Blended Learning and Flipped Classroom teaching - free up class time for student interaction
  • Campus Pack Web 4.2 tools for Blackboard - download the user guides from the Campus Pack site:
    • Blogs - a collaborative blogging tool for sharing information, where everyone can see and comment on each other's posts
    • Journals - Update - Learning Objects has implemented some changes to their Journal tool. Staff wishing to create individual private journals or learning logs for your students are advised to use the Blog tool instead and choose settings to create an individual private blog for each student. The Blog tool works in a similar way to the old Journal tool. Follow the instructions on the Blog page for creating a private blog. We will keep you informed of any changes and updates.
    • Podcasts - podcasting audio and video clips
    • Wikis* - Wiki tool for collaborative learning
  • Digital Video - use devices such as the small Flip camera for student- or tutor-created media clips
  • Introduction to Technology-enhanced Learning - an overview of pedagogy and provision at AU, including a reflective planning exercise 
  • PowerPoint - how to avoid 'Death by PowerPoint'
  • Qwizdom- interactive voting equipment
  • SafeAssign - text-matching tool to aid in plagiarism prevention through Blackboard
  • SharePoint - document-sharing platform available to AU staff - Please note that SharePoint was upgraded in March 2013.
  • Wimba Create - create learning objects for use in Blackboard or on the Web - please note that as of 2011, AU no longer has a site licence for this software
