New funding for staff

Oct 16 2009

Thanks to Gwella, staff can apply for two new funds for enhancing teaching with technology.

Development (eLDF) – It is one of the aims of Gwella ‘to encourage academic and academic support staff to develop and disseminate good practice in the use of technology to enhance learning & teaching.’ In response, we have created a new fund to allow staff to bid for financial assistance to enable development of pedagogically-sound use technology to enhance learning and teaching. The eLDF awards up to £1000 for innovative projects in departments. Bids are welcomed twice a year, in Oct and Mar.

Travel (eLTF) – Because the transport infrastructure of Wales and the geographical location of Aberystwyth make it logistically and financially challenging for staff to attend meetings and events at other institutions, a fund has been created to encourage and empower Aberystwyth academic and academic-support staff to fully engage with appropriate sector activities. The fund can be used to enable attendance at meetings and events concerned with the effective use of learning technologies. Applications for eLTF are open year round and can cover travel and accommodation as well as event fees.

Both funds require that staff disseminate their findings to the university, for example, by posting a summary to the Gwella Nexus website or presenting in an AU dissemination event. To find out more and download the application forms, visit the Centre for the Development of Staff and Academic Practice website http://www.aber.ac.uk/staffdevelopment/english/funds.htm or contact Graham Lewis (CDSAP) gjl@aber.ac.uk.
