My name is Anya, I am twelve, I have brown hair and brown eyes, I have a scar shaped like a starfish on my elbow where I fell off the swing when I was six and I am very cold. If I say this I am alive.

 

This is the opening paragraph from Sacrifice, a short by Norma Izon. It is also the story which opens Views From a High Place, a collection of  poetry, short stories and lifewriting by emerging creative writers based in and around the Tregaron area of Ceredigion. Norma Izon, like all eight contributors, had attended a community based creative writing course for adult beginners.
